About The Position

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Knowledge of data entry and/or documentation practices.
• Ability to maintain records, organize, and coordinate work assignments, communicate, maintain effective working relationships and good rapport with co-workers and clients.
• Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions
• Must have current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
• Must have experience in breastfeeding
• Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in office and/or by telephone
• Is available outside the WIC clinic and the usual 8 to 5 working schedules to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems
• Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers and getting a good start with breastfeeding. She also helps mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns
• Attends and assists with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups
• Attends monthly staff meeting and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate
• Inputs time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame
• Subject to emergency shelter duty in the event of a disaster
• Completion of all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame
• May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects and duties as assigned
• Respects each mother by keeping her information strictly confidential
• Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers
• Refers mothers, according to clinic-established protocols, to: WIC nutritionist or breastfeeding coordinator, Lactation Consultant, Mother's physician or nurse, Public health programs in the community, Social service agencies
