Strategic Finance Lead

About The Position

Counsel is seeking a Senior Finance Analyst to join its Finance & Strategy team. This role is a high-visibility, high-impact individual contributor position focused on financial planning, building strategic models, and cross-functional partnership to drive business growth. The analyst will report to the Controller and serve as the primary analytical resource for budgeting, forecasting, and developing unit economics for Counsel's multi-channel business. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to building the finance function from its foundation at an ambitious digital health company.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in FP&A, investment banking, PE, or strategic finance
  • Expert-level financial modeling (3-statement, unit economics, scenarios)
  • Track record owning a full forecast cycle end-to-end
  • A genuine comfort using AI tools as a core part of your workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions with financial analysis
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; comfort presenting to leadership

  • Experience with subscription or recurring revenue business models
  • Healthcare, digital health, or health-tech industry experience
  • Startup experience at Series A to C stage

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budget, rolling forecast, and monthly close variance analysis across the business.
  • Build and maintain the consolidated P&L, headcount model, and cash flow forecast; present results and risks to leadership.
  • Develop revenue models that capture Counsel’s multi-channel dynamics.
  • Design and publish KPI dashboards tracking member acquisition, retention, visit volume, unit economics, and clinical utilization.
  • Partner with Sales, Clinical Ops, Product, and People to gather bottom-up assumptions and hold teams accountable to their plans.
  • Build integrated 3-statement financial models for scenario planning, fundraising support, and board presentations.
  • Develop unit-economics models (CAC, LTV, payback period, and gross margin) across DTC and B2B channels.
  • Create cohort and retention analyses to understand member lifetime behavior and inform pricing and packaging decisions.
  • Model state-expansion economics as Counsel adds new payor partnerships.
  • Build ROI and payback models for employer and health plan partners that support enterprise Sales conversations.
  • Prepare board decks, investor updates, and management presentations with clear narratives grounded in data.
  • Support fundraising diligence, organize financial data rooms, respond to investor questions, and develop projection packages.
  • Conduct market sizing, competitive benchmarking, and business case analysis for new products and verticals.
  • Analyze partnership, product, and geographic expansion opportunities. Build deal models, sensitivity analyses, and business cases.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis to the leadership team to answer the most critical strategic questions.
  • Lead finance workstreams on high-priority initiatives such as new market launches, product expansions, and enterprise contract structuring.
  • Build reporting infrastructure as Counsel scales data definitions, and automation.
  • Evaluate and implement financial planning tooling as the company grows.
  • Serve as the analytical partner to non-finance leaders, translating financial data into insights for Clinical Ops, Product, and Growth teams.
