About The Position

Requirements

• Complete one of the following technical programs or qualifications: an EMT program; enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing with the first semester completed, including clinical concepts and health assessments; active state EMS certification in good standing at the date of hire; or recognized military training as a US Army medic, US Navy Corpsman, US Air Force Medic, or US Coast Guard Corpsman.
• Complete the ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.
• Hold current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

• Collect, report, and document patient data, including vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Perform and report Point of Care Testing.
• Assist with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse or designee and as indicated by the patient’s plan of care.
• Provide personal hygiene care, including bathing, oral suctioning, superficial wound care, assistance with elimination, care for incontinent patients and patients with urinary catheters, and ostomy care.
• Assist with patient feeding.
• Ambulate, position, and turn patients, and care for patients with altered mobility.
• Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Prepare patients and chaperone them during examinations and procedures, or assist with other patient treatments.
• Provide for patient safety based on age and condition; assist with patient restraints and maintain precautions.
• Collect, report, and document data related to patient needs, emergencies, and unusual patient or family behavior.
• Care for patients from a correctional environment.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment free of obstacles and conducive to a professional environment.
• Perform or assist others with proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection-control measures.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with Nurse Clinicians, Charge Nurses, and multidisciplinary team members.
• Notify the Charge Nurse and on-coming staff when equipment is missing or broken, and follow up with the Charge Nurse and Equipment Manager.
• Maintain patient care areas with appropriate supplies and assist with requests for other hospital services.
• Set up Labor & Delivery tables for ER deliveries.
• Set up and provide assistance with minor operating procedures and area-specific diagnostic procedures.
• Participate in and support quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrate acceptable productivity and practice cost containment.
