About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least six years managing data and analytics infrastructure such as Hadoop/Spark clusters, SQL/NoSQL data stores, and/or application hosting platforms.
• At least one year of experience working with at least one public cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, including RHEL or Debian.
• Understanding of distributed computing, scalable architectures, and microservices architecture.
• Hands-on experience establishing and governing code-based CI/CD pipelines using job automation platforms such as Jenkins.
• Experience with at least one infrastructure automation tool, such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
• Deep understanding of operating system and networking concepts.
• Ability to code with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Groovy.
• Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience with big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, or Sqoop.
• Basic knowledge of data integration tools such as DBT, Informatica, or Microsoft Integration Services.
• Experience with stream-processing systems such as IBM Streams, Flume, Storm, or Spark Streaming.
• Experience consuming and building APIs.
• Experience using Agile methodology for development.
• Critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and effective communication with organizational stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.
• FinOps Certified Engineer or FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification.
• At least eight years managing data and analytics infrastructure such as Hadoop/Spark clusters, SQL/NoSQL data stores, and/or application hosting platforms.
• At least two years working with at least one public cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Technical skills in Azure, Azure migrations, Cloudability, and Wiz Cloud Cost.

Responsibilities

• Champion a FinOps culture across engineering, finance, and operations, driving shared cloud cost accountability aligned with the FinOps Foundation framework.
• Design and operationalize showback and chargeback models across Azure, AWS, and GCP for accurate cost allocation to business units and products.
• Define and enforce cloud tagging taxonomy and governance policy across Azure, AWS, and GCP to support cost attribution and billing compliance.
• Analyze and optimize committed spend coverage across Azure Reservations, AWS RIs and Savings Plans, and GCP CUDs.
• Deliver executive-level cloud financial reporting and self-service dashboards using Power BI and FinOps Hub.
• Architect and deploy Microsoft FinOps Hub as CHOP’s cloud cost data platform, integrating Azure Data Explorer (ADX) and Microsoft Fabric as the analytics serving layer.
• Develop unit economics models that connect cloud spend to business outcomes and provide cost-per-workload visibility.
• Liaise between engineering, finance, and accounts payable teams, translating cloud consumption into forecasts, accruals, and procurement workflows.
• Identify and implement automation for billing monitoring, invoice reconciliation, cost alerting, and procurement.
• Facilitate and govern cloud marketplace purchases across Azure, AWS, and GCP, coordinating with Networking, Supply Chain, and Finance on committed-spend alignment and policy compliance.
• Chair the FinOps review cadence for CHOP’s on-premises-to-cloud migration program, providing cost visibility, migration cost narratives, and financial governance oversight.
• Establish AI cost governance and showback/chargeback frameworks for LLM, Azure OpenAI, and Copilot workloads.
• Evaluate and onboard FinOps tools, leading vendor assessments focused on data residency, private networking compliance, and AI spend visibility.
• Establish best practices for managing infrastructure as code.
• Build and manage on-premises and cloud data and analytics platforms and products.
• Identify cost optimization, delivery-speed, improvement, and automation opportunities.
• Ensure service reliability and availability to meet service levels.
• Build and maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for data and analytics products.
• Perform incident and problem management and root cause analysis.
• Partner with data analysts, product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand team needs and translate them into infrastructure and tooling that enable a DevOps culture.
• Manage time and work effectively across multiple priorities and projects.
• Recommend platform adoption, including technology integrations, application servers, libraries, and frameworks.
• Participate in a shared production on-call support model.
• Contribute as a critical member of an agile scrum team and help the team meet sprint deliverables.
• Mentor Data Engineers.
• Apply critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across the organization.
