About The Position

The Raleigh Convention and Performing Arts Center (RCPAC) is seeking an experienced Director of Public Safety & Security. This employee is responsible for developing and managing comprehensive safety and security operations across the Raleigh Convention Center (RCC), Red Hat Amphitheater (RHA), and the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts (MMCPA). This role oversees the direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Security Program, including related training initiatives, and administers contracts with third-party security providers. Additionally, the Director provides daily supervision, coaching, and professional development to two full-time Security Supervisors and one full-time Dock Marshal. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience and success in developing and implementing security protocols in large scale venues. The selected candidate understands and values the team and possesses strong interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication skills. They also must balance ensuring a positive customer experience with the security requirements of the venues. Key elements of this role include implementing security improvements to the venues, fostering existing and establishing new community partnerships, and developing and implementation of security policies and procedures. The Director of Public Safety and Security must demonstrate superior competencies with planning and coordinating day to day security operations, assuring the safe coordination of programs and events and conducting pre- and post-event safety reviews.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or 2 Years of College in Facility Management or related field; 5 to 7 years' experience in security, facility management, or related field OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of The Complex’s Public Safety and Security program for three downtown venues and all events hosted by The Complex
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned employees and makes decisions about hiring, discipline and/or termination of employees; prioritizes and assigns work; develops and oversees employee work schedules
  • Develops, implements and maintains the security management program to: increase service delivery of secure facilities; reduce, mitigate and eliminate hazards; provide accurate and thorough reporting of guest services and internal security-related incidents
  • Develops and conducts consistent security training throughout the year
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining an overall security access program, including electronic security technologies, as well as locking hardware and key deployment.
  • Develops access programs around vendors and clients to ensure ease of access for those required and limiting access to others
  • Works in conjunction with the venue leadership team in strategizing focus and initiatives for the betterment of the whole organization and, specifically, to enhance safety and security
  • Develops and submits an annual budget for the Security Division to meet needs of the security program
  • Takes initiative in seeking out new technologies that will keep areas of oversight progressively moving forward in an industry leadership role
  • Actively engaged with IAVM, ESCA and ASIS local security affiliated organizations.
  • Builds relationships within the community with all emergency responding agencies, such as RPD, RFD, FBI, DHS, Police, Health, etc.
  • Reviews and analyzes event requirements and develops appropriate in-house safety/security plans at the facilities.
  • Liaisons with clients in need of specialized services i.e. VIP escorting, protection services, protestors etc.
  • Acts as primary contact for the Convention and Performing Arts Center's emergency issues, member of the Emergency Management Team and leads the Emergency Response Team
  • Develops, implements, and ensures facility compliance with life-safety and emergency response and evacuation policies and procedures, including annual table-top training and drills
  • Reviews all incident reports (missing property, guest injuries, guest illness, crime reports etc.) and provides recommendations for improvements
  • Coordinates, oversees scheduler and supervises daily public safety. Security responsibilities are to ensure appropriate coverage of the loading docks, base, assigned static locations, mobile patrol for interior and direct exterior locations
  • Oversees the creation and implementation of criteria necessary for all contracted third-party security providers for events and venue safety
  • Ensures all providers maintain credentials in order to remain a preferred provider for clients to contract
  • Performs other duties as required
