This role implements the Production Fulfillment Process steps related to the fabrication of parts according to work order and customer requirements. Ensures machinery is set up, works properly, and conforms with (and can produce materials that conform with) company quality, quantity, and efficiency standards. This is the second of four levels of CNC machining center operators. Operators will begin to set up, adjust and identify programming, and operate numerically controlled machine tools to perform a series of progressive machining operations on repetitive work to close tolerances and finish specifications requiring considerable skill. They will work from programming instructions, operational data and machine setup instructions defining and coding tool arrangements, material clamping methods, machine calibrations and console settings, for Production operations such as mill, drill, face, thread and occasional profiling and contouring. Operators may run more than one machine simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge of machining techniques and methods.
  • Familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures.
  • Communicate with supervisor on work order priority.
  • Open to change due to emergency orders or fabrication of parts.
  • Basic to intermediate math skills and/or aptitudes.
  • Ability to use basic measuring instruments.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • 2+ years of experience, or equivalent.
  • A High School Diploma or GED with prior hands on, vocational or job-related course work/training, or any similar combination of education and experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates multiple types of fabrication equipment.
  • Operates tools according to instructions, specifications, and standard charts.
  • Places and secures work pieces in proper machine table, holding device, or other appropriate surface using clamps and wrenches.
  • Load, operate and manufacture a variety of parts using CNC machining centers to make custom parts according to customer orders and instructions.
  • Follow written instructions from internal and external customers and interpret basic to intermediate blueprint specifications.
  • Perform work independently with minimal defects.
  • Basic recognition of tooling and procedures within established tolerances.
  • Complete work order paperwork.
  • Checks parts for conformance to customer specifications.
  • Maintain count and perform packaging duties as required.
  • Participate in cross training activities to become knowledgeable of equipment/process within the department.
  • Perform routine daily machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Provide guidance, feedback and positive behavior modeling.
  • Determine if tools are undamaged and in safe condition for use.
  • Make suggestions to improve production and order processing efficiency.
  • Assist with training other team members.
  • Follow safety rules and quality standards.
  • Model ethical and moral behavior consistent with the values and ideals supported by The Gund Company.
