About The Position

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases.
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to motivate, coach, lead, and manage personnel.
• Ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public.
• Minimum of 8 to 15 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, concentrating on consumer protection or regulatory enforcement matters.
• Experience managing attorneys and professional legal staff.
• Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Regulated Products Enforcement Unit of the Consumer Protection Section.
• Investigate and prosecute suspected violations of consumer protection statutes regulating certain products, including liquid nicotine and nicotine vapor products, products containing kratom, and products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
• Develop and implement enforcement priorities.
• Supervise investigations and litigation.
• Ensure effective coordination among attorneys, investigators, professional staff, and other law-enforcement agencies.
• Supervise maintenance and operation of the Liquid Nicotine and Nicotine Vapor Product Directory, including the resolution of legal issues regarding the application of the Directory to specific manufacturers and products.
• Carry a partial caseload with responsibility to investigate and prosecute suspected violations of the statutes enforced by the Unit.
• Appear in the appropriate state or federal court in actions filed against alleged violators.
• Periodically meet with stakeholders.
• Assist in drafting official opinions.
• Review proposed legislation.
• Work with counterparts in other local, state, and federal agencies.
