About The Position

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, including reviewing and adjudicating seizures, penalties, prior disclosures, immigration carrier fines, and claims for liquidated damages through resolution.
• Experience evaluating case evidence, facts, and circumstances and making determinations and recommendations under mitigation guidelines, policies, laws, and regulations, including consideration of violators' participation in partnership programs.
• Experience reviewing and determining probable cause and/or the acceptability of evidence.
• Experience providing guidance, training, and feedback to law enforcement personnel regarding case processing for seizures, penalties, fines, and liquidated damages.
• For applicants not currently employed by CBP, physical residence in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years, subject to the stated waiver provisions.
• Ability to pass required pre-employment processes, which may include a background investigation and drug testing.
• Completion of required application steps, including the online assessment.
• Successful completion of required paid training may be a condition of employment.
• Newly appointed first-time CBP supervisors must complete mandatory leadership training unless previously completed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operations of an Fines, Penalties, and Forfeitures office service area.
• Process adjudications of liquidated-damages, penalty, and seizure cases.
• Review and process cases within the area of authority through final adjudication and resolution.
• Ensure cases are legally sufficient to establish violations and that case files contain the correct supporting documentation.
• Develop and evaluate evidence, facts, and circumstances relating to cases and make determinations, decisions, and recommendations under applicable laws and regulations.
• Cancel cases when no violation exists or when a case qualifies as de minimis under CBP written policies.
• Make final determinations on the validity of prior disclosures under relevant Title 19 authority.
• Provide guidance, training, and feedback to law enforcement personnel on processing seizures, penalties, fines, and liquidated-damages cases.
