About The Position

The Assignments Editor is the frontline of information gathering and story assignments. This role tracks stories from all sources including government agencies, social media, wire services and community groups. The Assignments Editor dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories, coordinates logistics for news personnel, and participates in daily story assignment discussions and story development. This role also provides updates on stories, follows up on previous stories, and edits video clips as assigned. There is potential for writing stories for the web and other eMedia platforms. The Assignments Editor interacts with viewers/users on social media sites and by phone in a professional/customer service-based manner and performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Minimum two years’ experience in news operations
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Flexibility to work any shift
