About The Position

The Activities Coordinator for the Birch Program is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating structured recreational and therapeutic activities that support individualized treatment goals for youth in a longer-term psychiatric treatment setting. Programming is designed to promote skill acquisition, emotional regulation, social development and increased independence. This role ensures that all activities are purposeful, measurable and aligned with each youth’s treatment plan, contributing to positive clinical outcomes and an enhanced therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Education or a related field required.
  • Understanding of person-centered care and individualized service planning
  • Ability to link activities to measurable treatment goals and outcomes
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and behavioral interventions
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to accuracy, timeliness and clinical relevance
  • Ability to collect and communicate observational data that informs treatment
  • Skills in engagement, motivation and group facilitation
  • Ability to support performance improvement and program evaluation efforts

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a behavioral health or structured therapeutic setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate activity programming that aligns with individualized treatment plans and documented goals.
  • Facilitate structured group and individual activities that support development of coping skills, social skills, emotional regulation and daily living skills.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure programming reflects each youth’s strengths, needs, abilities and preferences.
  • Modify and individualize activities based on clinical presentation, functioning level and progress toward goals.
  • Provide a consistent, structured therapeutic environment that reinforces treatment interventions and behavioral expectations.
  • Observe, monitor and document youth engagement, participation and progress in activities in accordance with program and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate relevant observations to the treatment team to support ongoing assessment and treatment planning.
  • Incorporate evidence-informed and trauma-informed approaches into all programming.
  • Promote choice, autonomy and person-centered engagement in activity planning when appropriate.
  • Ensure activities are culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with regulations, CARF standards and organizational policy.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, contributing observations and recommendations related to functional skills and engagement.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives by tracking participation trends and identifying opportunities to enhance programming effectiveness.
  • Ensure all programming adheres to safety protocols, risk management practices and infection control standards.
  • Maintain supplies and ensure the environment is safe, organized and conducive to therapeutic engagement.
  • Assist with program development, including special events and life skills programming.
  • Report incidents, safety concerns or changes in youth status per policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
