Child Development Teacher (Southeast Early Head Start)

About The Position
The Child Development Teacher provides high-quality childcare and educational experiences for children under three at the Southeast Early Head Start center while parents participate in meaningful activities. The teacher plans and presents accurate, engaging lessons and maintains a safe, clean, comfortable classroom that supports quality parent-child interactions. Southeast Early Head Start serves families experiencing high-risk circumstances, including community trauma, interpersonal violence, housing instability, recovery from addiction, and challenges associated with English as a second language. Its attachment-based, trauma-informed program uses teaching methods and mental health intervention approaches to support strong parent-child attachments and family stability. The program is a delegate agency of the Maryland Family Network and is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education’s Office of Child Care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ninety-hour Early Childhood Education Certificate.
- Forty-five-hour Infant Toddler Certificate.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required within three months of employment.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
- At least one year of supervised classroom experience working directly with children from birth to three years old.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- Daycare experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide culturally sensitive, attachment-based, trauma-informed educational activities for children in an unrestricted environment using best practices.
- Collaborate with the Child Development Coordinator and Child Development Teacher Mentor to plan lessons, develop classroom strategies, set individual and group educational goals, and make daily care plans using Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold.
- Participate in and assist with parent-child attachment interventions, such as A Good Good-Bye and Family Tradition Groups.
- Develop and facilitate child development goals in accordance with family partnership agreements and Teaching Strategies Gold observations.
- Develop, plan, and prepare classroom instructional aids and materials.
- Complete classroom paperwork, including daily checklists, daily logs, child observations, assessment tools, and progress notes, in a timely manner.
- Conduct weekly observations of assigned children using the Teaching Strategies Gold online tool.
- Complete child development screenings, including ASQ, ASQ-SE, and DECA-IT.
- Complete quarterly checkpoints and parent conferences for each child using the Teaching Strategies Gold online tool.
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
- Communicate courteously with parents about their child’s progress, needs, and concerns.
- Follow Office of Child Care licensing requirements and Early Head Start Performance Standards.
- Complete at least two home visits annually.
