About The Position

The Modern and Classical Languages Department at Greenhills School is seeking a collaborative and dynamic Chinese teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This part-time position involves working with 5th-grade students as part of the newly formed elementary school division. The role requires a teacher who can inspire curiosity, deep thinking, creative exploration, and empathy through rich and meaningful language and culture learning experiences. The ideal candidate will foster an inclusive classroom environment that values multiple perspectives and promotes empathy toward diverse cultures. There may be opportunities for additional responsibilities at the Arbor Hills campus, which serves students in grades JK-5.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Chinese language studies or the equivalent
  • Fluency in Chinese and English
  • Employs a variety of strategies, resources, and tools to teach in the immersion-based setting
  • A student-centered educator who creates an interactive classroom
  • A creative problem solver
  • Knowledgeable about child development and the upper elementary child’s intellectual, social, and emotional development and willing to positively greet the challenges and opportunities they present
  • A professional oral and written communicator
  • Eager to work collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessments
  • Comfortable using technology in the classroom
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Undergo fingerprinting and a comprehensive background check as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Teach one section of 5th grade Chinese meeting 3 afternoons per week at the Arbor Hills campus
  • Demonstrate experience or interest in immersion teaching
  • Collaborate with department colleagues on pedagogy and curriculum, and to vertically align coursework to provide students with a meaningful scope and sequence throughout their 5-12 school experience
  • Reflect on instructional practices and seek out opportunities for professional development
  • Create inclusive and effective classroom environments and provide learning support for students inside and outside the classroom as needed, including implementing formal accommodations, in consultation with the Greenhills Learning Center
  • Practice clear, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Attend department meetings
  • Promote an inclusive working and community environment
  • Serve as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for students and maintaining healthy boundaries in student and professional relationships
  • Help with additional duties as assigned
