About The Position

Air and Space Force Solutions, a business unit within BAE Systems, has an opening for a Linux System Administrator at our facility located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The selected candidate will join our ISC support team and have an important role in supporting our mission of Strategic Deterrence through continual improvement and innovation.

Requirements

  • Hands‑on experience administering Ubuntu Server environments, including installation, configuration, hardening, and maintenance.
  • Ability to deploy and configure Linux-based applications, services, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience installing, upgrading, and removing COTS/GOTS software packages in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of system patching, security updates, and implementing STIG/CIS security configurations.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot system and application issues, and document resolutions.
  • Familiarity with configuration management processes and change control workflows.
  • Experience developing or maintaining technical documentation, including SOPs and installation/configuration procedures.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members on system administration tasks and standard practices.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing concepts).
  • Proficiency with command-line tools, Bash scripting, and package management (APT).
  • Ability to maintain accurate activity logs, system status updates, and issue tracking.
  • Must meet DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II or higher certification requirements on the hire date or obtain such certification within 6 months of being hired.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RHEL or other Linux distributions in mixed‑environment infrastructures.
  • Familiarity with automation/orchestration tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
  • Scripting experience in Python or other languages for automation and system management.
  • Experience integrating Linux systems with identity services (LDAP, Active Directory, Kerberos).
  • Understanding of virtualization and containerization technologies (VMware, KVM, LXC/LXD, Docker).
  • Exposure to monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Nagios).
  • Knowledge of secure enclave environments, DoW cybersecurity policies, DISA STIGs, or NIST standards.
  • Experience working in environments requiring system certification, accreditation, or compliance documentation.
  • Relevant certifications such as Linux+, LPIC‑1/2, Ubuntu Professional, RHCSA, Security+, or CEH.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Ubuntu Server systems and Linux-based applications.
  • Install, integrate, and manage COTS and GOTS software across enterprise environments.
  • Perform system hardening, patching, and security configuration in accordance with organizational and industry standards.
  • Conduct software upgrades, apply security fixes, and validate system functionality after changes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system, application, and network-related issues, including performing root cause analysis.
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation for installation, configuration, hardening, operations, and maintenance activities.
  • Support configuration management processes, including version tracking, change control, and baseline updates.
  • Remove or decommission software and services in a secure, compliant, and well‑documented manner.
  • Train and mentor team members on standard operating procedures and system administration best practices.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity, and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Manage certificates, licensing, and compliance requirements for supported systems.
  • Automate routine tasks using Bash, Python, or equivalent scripting languages.
  • Assist with integration of identity and authentication services (LDAP, AD, or similar).
  • Ensure all systems align with IT infrastructure standards, cybersecurity requirements, and operational policies.
