About The Position
Kensington Investment Company is seeking an experienced Financial Cost Accountant to join the Accounting & Finance team. This role reports to the Senior Accountant and will be responsible for supporting accounting functions including accruals, reconciliations, revenue recognition, and general ledger management. The position plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations by maintaining the accounting for the Utah real estate portfolio. Additionally, this role will collaborate with the SVP, Construction and Facilities to manage the accounting for residential and commercial building renovations and capital improvements, tracking projects from design to completion. Project types include commercial tenant fit outs, residential apartment renovations, historical restorations, and building system replacements across properties in Boston and Utah. The position is based in KIC's Boston office in the Seaport and follows a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in-person and 2 days remote per week. The ideal candidate will embody company values, possess exceptional attention to detail, and demonstrate initiative.
Requirements
- BS in Accounting
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience
- Strong interest in construction and real estate development/management
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with formula skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding time management skills, with proven ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities effectively
- Sound judgement, maturity, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Responsibilities
- Timely and accurate monthly financials for each Utah commercial property
- Weekly cash reconciliations of operating accounts for Utah commercial properties
- Assist property managers with financial requests for Utah commercial properties
- Maintain updated tenant ledgers for Utah commercial properties
- Timely and accurate financial reporting sent to partners and lenders for Utah residential properties
- Adhere to lender requirements for Utah residential properties
- Work with property management and Asset Manager for accurate financials for Utah residential properties
- Update monthly operations report with current financials for Utah residential properties
- Enter jobs in Northspyre and Real Page for job costing
- Enter budgets in Northspyre for job costing
- Enter commitments and PO's in Real Page for job costing
- Review & code all capex invoices for job costing
- Organize project files and upload quotes/contracts to Real Page for job costing
- Build, update, and distribute Weekly Capex report
- Build, update, and distribute Project schedules / milestone updates
- Build, update, and distribute Monthly financials forecast
- Build, update, and distribute Meeting minutes
- Study project scope of work and get estimates/proposals for subcontractor and materials procurement
- Issue subcontracts and purchase orders for subcontractor and materials procurement
- Set up new vendors in job costing for subcontractor and materials procurement
- Set up credit accounts with new vendors for subcontractor and materials procurement
