About The Position

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join their nursing team on the Neuroscience unit. This role involves providing specialized care for patients with complex neurological conditions such as hemorrhagic bleeds, ischemic strokes, neurosurgical cases, and seizure disorders. The unit has a specific focus on Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) patients requiring continuous EEG monitoring. The RN will be responsible for assessing and meeting diverse patient needs, including pain management, medication education, and evaluating nursing intervention outcomes. Effective communication with physicians and nursing supervisors is essential for delivering patient-centered care within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. The position is in a health care facility that operates 24/7, requiring rotating shifts, holiday, and inclement weather work.

Requirements

  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • One (1) year of RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative patient needs, including discharge planning.
  • Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report and symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.
  • Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.
  • Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Understands the attendance and punctuality guidelines, and adherence to the dress code.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Provides quality patient care and works with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
