Research Technician II, Mineral Metabolism

About The Position

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science. We are seeking an individual with excellent critical thinking skills to join the Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research Department. This position will work in our CLIA-certified laboratory and will process and analyze urine and blood samples for clinical diagnostic and research efforts of the Center. The Mineral Metabolism CLIA laboratory is staffed by seven members who work together as a tightly knit team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience
  • Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • No experience required with Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college
  • 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of chemistry and chemical reactions in order to troubleshoot equipment and assays
  • Ability to run assays for 14 urine analytes in our stone risk profile
  • Ability to learn to perform ad hoc assays on urine and serum as they pertain to mineral metabolism.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ELISA test methods
  • Experience with immunoextraction
  • Experience with liquid chromatography

Responsibilities

  • Assists in receipt and accessioning of samples received from various diagnostic clinics and other research labs.
  • Assists in reporting results in patient medical records system (EPIC) to diagnostic clinics.
  • Performs specialized procedures for clinical research projects and reports results to Supervisor and Principal Investigators.
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
