Professor, Community and Business Resilience - Part Time

About The Position

We are looking for a professor to teach a Community and Business Resilience course in our Protection Security and Investigation program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a combination of academic credentials, industry expertise, and teaching effectiveness related to emergency management, business continuity, community resilience, and public safety.

Requirements

  • Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Business Continuity, Disaster and Emergency Management, Security Studies, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Emergency management and incident response, Business continuity and organizational resilience, Community safety and emergency preparedness, Threat and risk assessment, Crisis management and recovery planning, Public safety, policing, fire, EMS, healthcare, municipal, or security operations.
  • Working knowledge of Incident Management System (IMS) principles and emergency response frameworks, including IMS certifications.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, business impact analyses, continuity planning, or emergency response planning within community or organizational environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current legislation, standards, best practices, and emerging trends related to emergency management and organizational resilience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical, and critical evaluation skills.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technologies used in postsecondary environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional certifications related to emergency management, business continuity, incident management, or public safety.
  • Experience working within municipal, provincial, federal, healthcare, education, or private-sector emergency management environments.
  • Membership or involvement with relevant professional associations in emergency management, business continuity, or public safety.
  • Previous postsecondary teaching, training, facilitation, or instructional experience.
  • Ability to engage diverse learners using inclusive, student-centred, and experiential teaching methodologies.
  • Strong curriculum delivery skills.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible (IDEA) environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a Community and Business Resilience course in the Protection Security and Investigation program.
  • Demonstrate a combination of academic credentials, industry expertise, and teaching effectiveness related to emergency management, business continuity, community resilience, and public safety.
  • Use case studies, applied learning, simulations, and scenario-based exercises to support student learning.
  • Develop and evaluate assignments, presentations, simulations, and applied assessments.
  • Connect theory with real-world emergency and continuity management practices.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in high-pressure or emergency scenarios.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Commit to equity, diversity, inclusion, and student success.
