About The Position

The University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Human Oncology, is seeking a faculty/staff Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to support its advanced proton therapy program, which is scheduled to become clinical in 2026. The physicist will primarily provide proton physics services at UW Health Cancer Center’s Eastpark Medical Center and contribute to the development of a next-generation clinical program within a collaborative team of medical physicists, residents, and medical physics assistants. The proton program includes a Hitachi synchrotron, intensity modulated proton therapy capability, a rotating gantry room, a fixed-beam room with an upright patient positioning system and on-board CT, and image-guided treatment technologies. The role includes clinical physics work across proton therapy and other radiation oncology services, including equipment commissioning, calibration, quality assurance, treatment-planning support, dosimetry, patient positioning, chart reviews, special physics consultations, and on-call proton coverage. The successful candidate will help develop clinical solutions and quality management programs, support advanced imaging and adaptive treatment techniques, and contribute to continuous quality improvement. Based on the candidate’s interests and accomplishments, there may be opportunities for research and teaching aligned with departmental goals. The position also includes mentoring and didactic instruction of medical physics residents and trainees, professional and university service, and administrative and committee participation. The department provides integrated clinical, research, and training facilities across Eastpark Medical Center and the UW–Madison campus. The position reports to the Chief Physicist and requires collaboration with the Director of Proton Physics, departmental leadership, medical staff, and faculty. Compensation is negotiable for a 12-month appointment. The posting is a Notice of Filing and states that the position has been filled; it asks people not to apply.
