About The Position

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Human Oncology is seeking a faculty/staff physicist to support its next-generation proton therapy program, scheduled to become clinical in 2026. The program includes a Hitachi synchrotron, high-energy beam transport, intensity-modulated proton therapy, a 360-degree gantry room, and a fixed-beam room with an upright patient positioning system and on-board CT. The position focuses primarily on proton physics services at UW Health Cancer Center’s Eastpark Medical Center, while offering opportunities for research and teaching aligned with departmental goals and the candidate’s interests and accomplishments. The department’s clinical and research environment includes advanced radiation therapy, imaging, treatment-planning, and information-system technologies, as well as active research in areas such as FLASH, online adaptive radiation therapy, advanced imaging, treatment planning, and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will provide technical clinical support for proton therapy and participate in the department’s broader clinical, teaching, research, and service missions. The role reports to the Chief Physicist and involves collaboration with the Chief Physicist, Director of Proton Physics, departmental leadership, medical staff, and faculty. The appointment may be at Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor on the CHS track. The position is regular, 12-month employment. Compensation is negotiable. The university describes benefits including vacation, holidays, sick leave, insurance and savings accounts, and retirement benefits. The posting is a notice of filing and states that the position has been filled; it asks readers not to apply.
