About The Position

MaineHealth is seeking a Clinical Medical Physicist to provide physics support across its regional Radiation Oncology network in Southern and Coastal Maine. The role has primary involvement at Maine Medical Center in Portland and the new Mid Coast Cancer Center in Brunswick, which is scheduled to open in January 2027. The network includes four treatment sites within approximately 40 minutes of Portland. Candidates may range from recent CAMPEP residency graduates to experienced board-certified physicists. At Maine Medical Center, the physicist will support a comprehensive program that includes stereotactic treatments, advanced imaging, brachytherapy, and special procedures. At Mid Coast Cancer Center, the physicist will help launch and support a new radiation oncology program with CT simulation, image guidance, surface guidance, respiratory motion management, and stereotactic treatment capabilities. Clinical services include 3DCRT and VMAT, SBRT and SRT/SRS, HDR, GammaTile and intravascular brachytherapy, electron and superficial therapy, and advanced image guidance and motion management. The physicist supports the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy through clinical physics services, quality assurance, treatment-planning oversight, imaging and dosimetry services, and implementation of new technologies. The role includes opportunities to lead or contribute to initiatives such as the Mid Coast Cancer Center go-live, expansion of surface-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic program development, MIM implementation and workflow optimization, OIS upgrades and workflow standardization, and ACR reaccreditation. The physics and dosimetry team values professional trust, collaboration, mutual support, and work-life balance. Physicists are trusted to exercise professional judgment and contribute to clinical and technical initiatives, working alongside radiation oncologists and multidisciplinary colleagues. MaineHealth supports clinical education, including dosimetry student placements with JPU, and has a long-term goal of developing a medical physics residency program. Professional development support may include AAPM membership, conferences, CME, certification-related expenses, and continuing education in accordance with organizational policy. Full-time schedule options are five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days, subject to clinical coverage needs.
