About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have a home telephone or telephone contact.
• Must be available to work on short notice.
• Proficient oral and written communication.
• Must demonstrate safe patient handling, including patient turns and transfers.
• Experience in a health care delivery setting preferred.
• Role involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of objects weighing 20 pounds or less, assisting with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients, and some straining, fatiguing positions, and motions.
• Duties may require operating and giving full attention to a personal computer or CRT for 40 to 70 percent of the time.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient activities and behaviors, and use appropriate response interventions to help assure patient safety.
• Communicate clearly with patients and their families, demonstrating competencies specific to each population served.
• Timely communicate patient status, observations, behaviors, and pertinent input to the nurse to facilitate patient care.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow agency safety procedures, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
• Demonstrate safe patient handling, including patient turns and transfers to a commode or bathroom.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as eating and using the restroom.
• Use safe work practices and personal protective equipment when necessary.
• Assist with orientation of new sitters.
• Accompany patients to diagnostic tests.
