About The Position

The Patient Safety Assistant works under the direction and guidance of a manager to promote and provide patient safety and companionship for patients of all ages, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This posting represents multiple positions in the Bronson Methodist Patient Safety Department; openings may vary in availability. The role focuses primarily on observing patients and preventing unsafe behavior or activity. The assistant communicates patient status and observations to the nursing team, accompanies patients to diagnostic tests, maintains a clean and orderly environment, assists with activities of daily living, and supports safe patient handling. The position also includes helping orient new sitters.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Must have a home telephone or telephone contact.
Must be available to work on short notice.
Proficient oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Observe and report patient activities and behaviors, and use appropriate interventions to help ensure patient safety.
Communicate clearly with patients and their families and demonstrate competencies appropriate to the populations served.
Timely communicate patient status, observations, behaviors, and other relevant information to the nurse.
Follow patient confidentiality and safety procedures and applicable policy and procedure manuals.
Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work environment.
Demonstrate safe patient handling, including turning patients and transferring them to a commode or bathroom.
Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as eating and using the restroom.
Use safe work practices and personal protective equipment when necessary.
Assist with orientation of new sitters.
Accompany patients to diagnostic tests.
