About The Position
The Dry Kiln Operator operates and maintains kilns to dry lumber to the required moisture content. The role involves monitoring the drying process, adjusting kiln controls, and ensuring equipment runs smoothly and produces quality lumber. This is a full-time permanent position at Canfor’s Fulton Plant in Fulton, Alabama, working rotating day and night shifts. Hourly wages and bonus opportunities vary based on position and shift.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a good understanding of kiln operation and drying processes.
- Ability to closely monitor the drying process and adjust it as needed to achieve quality results.
- Comfort working in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and working in hot and humid conditions.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience as a Dry Kiln Operator or in a similar role at a sawmill or wood products facility.
- Forklift operating experience, particularly with heavy-duty forklifts and preferably in a sawmill or industrial setting.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor dry kilns to dry lumber to the correct specifications.
- Check lumber moisture levels regularly to ensure they meet desired standards.
- Perform routine kiln maintenance and address issues as they arise.
- Adjust kiln temperature and humidity to optimize drying time and quality.
- Keep accurate logs of drying cycles, moisture content, and process adjustments.
- Inspect lumber before and after drying to ensure it meets company and industry standards.
- Follow safety protocols and keep the kiln area safe and clean.
- Operate a forklift to move lumber and other materials safely and efficiently.
