About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
• Able to read, speak, and write fluent English.
• Able to learn and navigate computer systems, including online training modules, the employee timesheet, the performance appraisal system, and job-specific systems.
• Able to meet the listed physical demands, including lifting approximately 35 pounds and using proper body mechanics, ergonomics, and applicable lifting or moving devices.

Nice To Haves

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, delegate, and coordinate nursing care using the nursing process and in accordance with applicable professional standards and regulations.
• Provide direct and indirect patient care, observation, and counsel, and accept responsibility for the total nursing care of assigned patients.
• Communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions, including diagnostic results and symptoms, to providers, managers, and other healthcare team members.
• Mentor and consult with nursing department staff to support their clinical development.
• Collect comprehensive and accurate initial, ongoing, and discharge assessment data.
• Analyze assessment and monitor or equipment data to determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses or issues.
• Develop and update individualized care plans and expected outcomes, involving patients, families, and other healthcare providers in care decisions.
• Implement care plans safely and promptly, collaborate with other disciplines, and provide health promotion and teaching appropriate to patients’ needs.
• Use relationship-based care and Planetree patient-centered programs or therapies to address holistic patient and family needs.
• Evaluate progress toward outcomes; revise diagnoses, outcomes, and care plans as needed; and document care accurately at the point of care.
• Evaluate personal nursing practice against professional standards, statutes, rules, and regulations; exercise autonomy; and seek assistance when appropriate.
• Respond to patient-care and departmental concerns by contacting appropriate resources and initiating action.
• Coordinate care, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel performing assigned or delegated tasks.
• Participate in teams and committees, contribute to peers’ professional development, and address colleague concerns constructively.
• Integrate available evidence and research findings into practice and incorporate new knowledge into nursing care.
• Complete a reflective journal note in Halogen describing how Waverly Health Center’s values were demonstrated in the employee’s work during the past year.
