About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma.
• Two years of work experience as a communications operator or dispatcher, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and communications work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties.
• Current EMS Dispatcher certification from an accredited EMS training program or course, which must be maintained.
• Current certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Upon recommendation for hire, complete a criminal background check and National FBI fingerprint check, including a 39-month driving record, to determine suitability for employment.
• May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license, with no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years.
• If required, meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
• Depending on department needs, may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham language and English as a condition of employment.
• Knowledge of Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.
• Knowledge of appropriate use and care of radio, telephone, computer, and other communications equipment.
• Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures associated with EMS operations and services.
• Skill in preparing clear, concise, accurate, and complete written reports.
• Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
• Skill in communicating effectively, courteously, and clearly; speaking distinctly; and responding promptly.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and operate radio communication equipment.
• Ability to remain calm and handle emergency situations, exercise tact and diplomacy, and handle the psychological stresses of the work.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the public, tribal government, and other law enforcement and public safety agencies.
• Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for medical services.
• Handle calls or direct them to the appropriate contact based on experience, training, policies, and procedures.
• Dispatch, assign, and schedule field unit vehicles, equipment, and personnel.
• Compile and maintain information for EMS logs and reports.
• Gather and distribute information covering the scope of EMS services.
• Collect, analyze, and prioritize information received.
• Transmit, record, and receive messages between divisions of the agency and other law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Maintain and ensure computer and radio equipment is operational and functional at all times.
• Convey phone messages, respond to requests from other employees and the public, and provide routine public information.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned and contribute to a team effort.
