About The Position
This is a remote interpreting position for a Japanese-English interpreter based in the United States. The interpreter facilitates communication between Japanese and English speakers by quickly and accurately processing information in a professional manner. The position is performed from the interpreter’s home office, which must provide a quiet and secure environment. Note pads, writing utensils, glossaries, and dictionaries are useful tools. The role offers ongoing training and competency opportunities and pays monthly at a per-minute rate. Based on location, language testing, a background check, and/or a drug screen may be required.
Requirements
- Fluency in English and Japanese.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Computer or laptop running Windows 10 or higher.
- USB wired headset.
- Steady wired internet connection.
- Work from a quiet and secure home office.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of interpretation experience is preferred.
- Note pads and writing utensils, glossaries, and dictionaries are useful tools.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate communication between Japanese and English speakers.
- Process information quickly and accurately in a professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocols, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Explain certain cultural concepts to help avoid miscommunication when permitted or requested by the client.
- Maintain a quiet and secure work environment.
