About The Position
The Space Systems Model Based Systems Engineering Intern will participate in BAE Systems Aerospace & Mission Systems’ nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, which provides hands-on work with experienced professionals, career development opportunities, and networking with business leaders and fellow students. The intern will support systems engineering work related to mission-critical systems for national defense and scientific research, contributing to system design, integration, and deployment. The role uses a model-based, data-centric approach to systems engineering, creating, expanding, maintaining, and using system models to manage parts of the technical baseline. Interns are assigned technical work based on their interests, skills, and program needs. Assignments may involve system and component modeling, requirements and architecture documentation, mission or spacecraft performance analysis, testing, and hands-on hardware or support-equipment development. The position is part of the Engineering, Science and Analysis Strategic Capabilities Unit and involves collaboration with technical experts, government customers, commercial space companies, and cross-functional teams. It is an on-site role requiring in-person work five days each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment; occasional protective equipment may be required in production work centers, and access to other facilities in various weather conditions may occur.
Requirements
- Must have completed sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for fall 2027, or be enrolled in a graduate degree program.
- Degree must be from a university, college, or school accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or U.S. Department of Education.
- Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related degree field.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- High interest in learning.
- Proactiveness when approaching problems or unfamiliar areas.
- Desire to understand how changes in one area affect the rest of a project.

- An active security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Develop system and component models using MBSE methodology and tools such as Cameo.
- Ensure system architectures are documented correctly in the MBSE model.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to determine and document system architecture, CONOPS, system trades, flow-downs, requirements, and interfaces.
- Define and manage requirements using DOORS or JAMA.
- Perform mission, spacecraft, or instrument performance modeling and simulation.
- Conduct risk assessment and analysis.
- Define and analyze system interfaces.
- Update system analyses and specifications.
- Assist with test setup, test performance, and test data reduction.
- Design tooling and/or ground support equipment.
- Help assemble and analyze test data for compliance with requirements.
- Conduct trend analysis of performance data.
- Develop procedures for support equipment and/or flight hardware.
- Assist with hands-on development and testing of support equipment and/or flight hardware.
- Assist with test design methodology.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to peers, management, and customers.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the department, Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the company.
- Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
