About The Position

Global Payments is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join its Enterprise Data Platform Engineering Team and help build its next-generation Operational Data Store (ODS). The ODS is a foundational platform for real-time payment experiences, fraud prevention, authorization enrichment, and merchant servicing at scale. The engineer will help define technology strategy, influence architecture, and develop proof-of-concept innovations into a production-ready platform supporting business-critical transactions. The role focuses on delivering resilient, high-performance data solutions and core platform capabilities for low-latency access to operational data. The engineer will improve reliability, scalability, and performance; create self-service onboarding and operational capabilities; evaluate technologies under production-scale workloads; establish engineering standards; and strengthen observability, resiliency, and recovery across the platform.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Hands-on expertise with distributed NoSQL databases and data-serving platforms, including data modeling, indexing strategies, and low-latency access patterns.
  • Strong experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures, including streaming data pipelines, schema management, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated success automating infrastructure and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Collaborative, ownership-driven approach and ability to influence technical decisions, solve complex challenges, document solutions clearly, and drive outcomes across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in payments, financial technology (fintech), or other regulated industries where reliability, security, and compliance are critical.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Apache Iceberg, or modern lakehouse architectures.
  • Experience contributing to open-source data infrastructure projects or building managed database and streaming platform solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver core platform capabilities that enable low-latency access to operational data for enterprise business and client experiences.
  • Optimize read-path latency, scalability, and resiliency to meet availability and throughput objectives.
  • Automate tenant provisioning, governance controls, and operational workflows to enable self-service onboarding and adoption.
  • Evaluate technologies and validate solutions under production-scale workloads.
  • Help define platform strategy, technical direction, and engineering standards for a shared enterprise platform.
  • Build observability, resiliency, and recovery capabilities to improve service health, reduce risk, and support platform growth.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams, and other teams to influence technical decisions and drive outcomes.
