About The Position

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer for its Infrastructure Planning and Capacity Management organization. The team builds software solutions to improve infrastructure capacity management, resource sourcing, and future-demand planning. Its work includes planning and forecasting services, sourcing workflows, process automation, data integration, and operational reporting, with a focus on improving decision quality and operational visibility while reducing manual effort across engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance. The engineer will design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and workflow automation supporting infrastructure planning and capacity management. The role owns technical designs and service implementations, contributes to architectural decisions, and collaborates across engineering teams to deliver scalable and reliable production systems. It covers new capabilities and enhancements to existing systems, with an emphasis on improving architecture, performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. The position leads development and begins architecting components of scalable, elastic distributed systems. It defines and enforces scalability requirements, optimizes code and data paths for high-throughput workloads, and uses data-plane platforms for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing. The engineer designs fault-tolerant, in-service-upgradable systems; establishes telemetry, KPIs, dashboards, and alerts; and develops complex validation, replication, and synchronization approaches. The role also includes production troubleshooting, mentoring, operational support rotations, security and compliance work, and infrastructure automation for safe patching, updates, and rollbacks. The role is based onsite in Nashville, Tennessee, five days per week. Relocation assistance is available; the position is not remote.

  • Familiarity with data engineering, ETL processes, streaming technologies, data warehousing, forecasting, or operational analytics.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration platforms, business-process automation, or complex operational workflows.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure capacity management, demand planning, infrastructure sourcing, supply chain operations, or hardware lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or similar cloud infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, microservices, and cloud-native application architectures.
  • Experience improving system scalability, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency in production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and begin architecting components of scalable distributed systems, including use of distributed state management tools.
  • Define scalability requirements for owned components and ensure designs and implementations meet them.
  • Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and high-throughput workloads; design systems for elastic scaling.
  • Use data-plane platforms for large-scale data retrieval, storage, and processing, and design performance and load testing.
  • Design fault-tolerant systems capable of in-service updates using redundancy, replication, and automatic failover.
  • Design for service disruptions such as network partitions, and implement load shedding, throttling, and rate limiting to address network unreliability.
  • Design durable components and systems that adhere to service-level objectives and set availability and durability expectations for other department computing services.
  • Define KPIs and telemetry, and build dashboards, monitoring systems, and alerts to identify gaps and proactively track system health.
  • Design and implement functional and correctness requirements for new and existing systems; create complex test scenarios such as fault injection and brownouts.
  • Implement data replication and synchronization to maintain data integrity and availability.
  • Proactively diagnose, debug, and resolve production issues; mentor others in these processes and maintain expertise in owned systems.
  • Develop strategies to prevent interruptions and avoid customer maintenance windows when resolving issues.
  • Meet operational readiness expectations and participate in operational support rotations, providing guidance during incident response and root-cause investigations.
  • Implement security measures, including encryption and access controls, and execute remediation plans for security gaps.
  • Help ensure cloud infrastructure complies with industry standards and regulations and keep compliance documentation current.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools, including Infrastructure as Code, to manage cloud infrastructure.
  • Create and follow change-management plans for patching, updating, and rolling back applications, and begin designing components to automate these processes.
  • Own technical designs and service implementations, contribute to architecture decisions, and coordinate implementation across engineering teams.
  • Translate business requirements into technical designs and deliver reliable, maintainable production services.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver and improve infrastructure planning and capacity-management solutions.
