About The Position

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer for its Infrastructure Planning and Capacity Management organization. The team builds software solutions for infrastructure capacity management, resource sourcing, and future-demand planning. Its work includes planning and forecasting services, sourcing workflows, process automation, data integration, and operational reporting, with an emphasis on improving decision quality and operational visibility while reducing manual effort across engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and workflow automation solutions supporting infrastructure planning and capacity management. You will own technical designs and service implementations, contribute to architectural decisions, and collaborate across engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable production systems. You will build new capabilities and enhance existing systems, applying software engineering practices to complex technical and operational challenges and improving architecture, performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. The role leads development and begins architecting components of scalable, elastic distributed systems. It defines scalability requirements, optimizes systems for high-throughput workloads, and uses data-plane platforms for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing. It also involves designing fault-tolerant, upgradable systems; establishing SLOs, KPIs, telemetry, dashboards, and alerts; validating correctness and durability; troubleshooting production issues; mentoring colleagues; implementing security controls and compliance documentation; and developing infrastructure-as-code automation for safe patching, updates, and rollbacks. The position is based onsite in Nashville, Tennessee, five days per week; it is not remote. Relocation assistance is available. The stated U.S. hiring range for this location is $114,600–$234,600 per annum, with possible eligibility for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

  • Experience designing, building, and deploying cloud-native services and APIs in cloud environments.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, system design, and experience with relational and/or distributed databases.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical designs and independently deliver reliable, maintainable production services.
  • Experience with modern software development practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, source control, monitoring, observability, debugging, and production reliability.
  • Experience owning technical designs, contributing to architecture decisions, and coordinating implementation across engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and drive solutions through implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve software delivery, testing, debugging, and technical documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and developing distributed systems, highly scalable backend services, or complex cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with data engineering, ETL processes, streaming technologies, data warehousing, forecasting, or operational analytics.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration platforms, business-process automation, or complex operational workflows.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure capacity management, demand planning, infrastructure sourcing, supply chain operations, or hardware lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or similar cloud infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, microservices, and cloud-native application architectures.
  • Experience improving scalability, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency in production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of scalable distributed-system components, and begin architecting those components to support horizontal and vertical scaling.
  • Define scalability requirements for owned components and ensure designs and implementations meet them, including elastic scaling up and down.
  • Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and high-throughput workloads; use data-plane platforms for large-scale data retrieval, storage, and processing.
  • Design performance and load testing.
  • Build fault-tolerant systems that support in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover.
  • Design for service disruptions such as network partitions, and implement approaches including load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting to handle network unreliability.
  • Design durable components and systems that meet service-level objectives and set availability and durability expectations for other departmental services.
  • Define KPIs and telemetry, and build dashboards, monitoring, and alerting to identify issues and proactively assess system health.
  • Design and implement functional and correctness requirements for new and existing systems.
  • Design complex test scenarios, including fault-injection and brownout testing, and implement data replication and synchronization to maintain integrity and availability.
  • Proactively diagnose, debug, and resolve issues in active systems; mentor others in troubleshooting; and maintain expertise in owned components.
  • Develop strategies to prevent interruptions and avoid customer maintenance windows when resolving issues; meet operational-readiness expectations through design and implementation.
  • Participate in operational support rotations and provide guidance during incident response and root-cause investigations.
  • Implement security controls, including encryption and access controls for multi-tenant environments; remediate security gaps and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools, including infrastructure as code, to manage cloud infrastructure.
  • Create and follow change-management plans for patching, updates, and rollbacks, and begin designing systems to automate these processes.
  • Own technical designs and service implementations, contribute to architecture decisions, and coordinate delivery with engineering teams.
