About The Position

As a Staff Data Engineer, you will be part of a Data Engineering team focused on making critical National Grid data available to business teams. Using an agile framework and rigorous engineering standards and coding practices, you will build end-to-end pipelines that deliver accessible, high-quality data. You will also contribute to modernizing architecture and tools to improve output, scalability, and speed. You will design and develop highly scalable, extensible data pipelines for collecting, storing, distributing, modeling, and analyzing large datasets from multiple channels. The role calls for a software engineer passionate about data and data quality, with data warehousing and API integration experience, who can build scalable pipelines to make data management, analytics, and reporting faster and more effective. The role operates under a hybrid working model and is based in the Waltham, Massachusetts or Brooklyn, New York office. Hybrid work expectations are subject to business needs and company policy. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Data Engineering team in developing, testing, documenting, and supporting scalable data pipelines.
  • Build new data integrations, including APIs, to support increasing data volume and complexity.
  • Establish and follow data governance processes and guidelines to ensure data availability, usability, consistency, integrity, and security.
  • Build and implement scalable solutions aligned with data governance standards and architectural roadmaps for integrations, storage, reporting, and analytics.
  • Collaborate with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increase data accessibility, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Design and develop data integrations and a data quality framework.
  • Write unit, integration, and functional tests, and document work.
  • Design, implement, and automate deployment of a distributed system for collecting and processing streaming events from multiple sources.
  • Analyze data to troubleshoot and help resolve data-related issues.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers on coding best practices and optimization.
  • Own architectural plans and artifacts for projects, driving system architecture beyond the team’s scope.
  • Execute large organizational projects, break work into tasks, integrate work across the organization, and identify edge cases and exception states.
  • Contribute software design expertise to architectural designs on and beyond the team.
  • Develop broader solutions to recurring organizational problems where appropriate.
  • Incorporate company-wide technology frameworks and occasionally contribute to core engineering solutions.
  • Anticipate future technical needs and drive the organization’s technology roadmap, including prioritization and planning.
