About The Position

The Site Reliability Engineer will help build and operate systems and experiences for Apple Retail and Marcom Engineering, supporting Apple’s online and physical stores and the interactive marketing experiences and tools used by creative operations. The role focuses on system reliability and availability, including production monitoring, incident response, on-call participation, highly available system design, infrastructure automation, and capacity and scalability planning across cloud and on-premise environments. The engineer will monitor production systems and respond to alerts to maintain agreed SLOs and SLAs; diagnose and resolve incidents across infrastructure, backend services, and client-side applications; and design, build, and maintain fault-tolerant systems. The role also involves administering Kubernetes, automating infrastructure and operational workflows, conducting performance tuning and capacity planning, performing root cause analysis and postmortems, documenting architecture and procedures, and advancing reliability practices and infrastructure automation standards.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a systems, storage, or cloud engineer.
  • Knowledge of Linux utilities and programs, including OEL, RHEL, and CentOS.
  • Expertise with version control systems such as Git or SVN and automated build and testing tools such as Jenkins and Vagrant.
  • Expertise with Kubernetes platforms, on-premise or in the cloud.
  • Expertise with at least one cloud infrastructure platform, such as AWS or GCP.
  • Understanding of enterprise storage platforms such as NetApp, Isilon, or object storage.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet or Ansible.
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM.
  • Experience automating workflows with Python or Go.
  • Knowledge of networking technologies including IPv4/IPv6, DNS, and network segmentation.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in an SRE role, including technical ownership of production systems at scale.
  • Background supporting high-traffic, consumer-facing web platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and document technical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of web technologies such as HTTP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and hands-on experience debugging web applications at the network/protocol level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GitOps infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with multi-platform cloud and on-premise applications at scale, particularly AWS and/or Alicloud.
  • Experience building web applications and services at scale in Go.
  • Experience performance-tuning web applications across contributing factors.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health, performance, and availability of production systems and respond to alerts to maintain agreed SLOs and SLAs.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as a first responder to production incidents, triaging, diagnosing, and resolving issues across infrastructure, backend services, and client-side/front-end systems.
  • Design, build, and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant systems across on-premise and cloud environments, incorporating redundancy and failover practices.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools.
  • Develop and maintain operational tooling and automation scripts in Python or Go to streamline workflows, improve observability, and reduce repetitive manual work.
  • Administer and optimize Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration for scalability, resilience, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning by analyzing traffic patterns, resource utilization, and application behavior, and proactively scaling systems ahead of demand.
  • Perform root cause analysis on incidents and participate in postmortems, translating findings into reliability improvements and preventive automation.
  • Document system architecture, runbooks, and operational procedures for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the evolution of reliability practices and infrastructure automation standards across multi-platform cloud and on-premise environments.
