About The Position

Metra is seeking a Locomotive Engineer to support safe, efficient, and dependable commuter rail service across its operated lines in Northeastern Illinois. The Transportation Department provides train service and oversees the Dispatching Office and Crew Management Center. Metra is a railroad employer subject to the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration. Candidates can expect salary offers from the minimum to the midpoint of the salary range; Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential. Meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview or job offer. The most qualified candidate will be selected. Requirements

Conductors must be certified.
Assistant Conductors must be eligible for promotion and have at least 365 days of actual work in Metra train service, excluding training time.
External railroad Engineers must currently be certified, hold a current Locomotive Engineer’s license, and have at least one year of full-time main-line experience.
Applicants must have an excellent work record and be free from decertification for the past three years.
Rules-qualified non-train service employees must have at least two years of service with Metra, including at least one year currently working in a full-time rules-qualified position, such as Train Dispatcher, Control Operator, Track Inspector, or certified Hostler.
All applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
All applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Metra employees in an active review period under the current discipline policy, or with documented attendance or performance issues, will not be considered or selected.
