About The Position
The Plasma Center EMT performs as a Medical Support Specialist supporting plasma center operations. The role determines donor eligibility to donate plasma, manages donor adverse events, reviews laboratory test results, and notifies donors of unsuitable test results. The specialist works under the operational guidance of the Center Manager or Assistant Manager, and under the Center Physician’s management for medical issues. The role follows BioLife Medical Affairs guidance, applicable procedures, and supports center-level environmental, health, and safety (EHS) activities. Responsibilities include conducting donor eligibility assessments and interviews, managing informed consent and confidential self-exclusion, performing physical examinations and blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE). The specialist evaluates donor reactions, follows procedures for medical emergencies, and refers medical, technical, donor safety, or eligibility questions to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs as applicable. The role also supports employee vaccination programs, manages employee incidents, and may serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS. The position is based in Kissimmee, Florida. The listed U.S. hourly wage range is $20.00–$29.26; actual pay may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications or licenses, and location. The role is full-time and regular. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, including a graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program, with applicable state requirements.
- Current license or certification in the state where responsibilities are assigned as an EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P, LPN/LVN, or RN.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfill state requirements in the state of licensure for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactorily complete FDA-approved training requirements for a BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility according to applicable SOPs.
- Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including the Center Physician’s standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer unacceptable findings to donors, and medical or technical questions involving donor safety or eligibility, to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs as applicable.
- Support employee Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs when applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation by occupational health or an emergency room is required, following EHS guidance.
- Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats in the local community when directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.
- Support plasma center operations and center-level environmental, health, and safety activities.
