About The Position

Responsible for delivering professional nursing services, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to emergency department and hospital policy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program in Nursing and a minimum of one year’s job-related experience or equivalent is required.
  • R I State Licensure is also required.
  • BSN or enrollment in a BSN program required for all external candidates.
  • BLS required; ACLS/PALS required within six months of hire / transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment under an approved protocol. Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  • Monitor medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Nursing Supervisor, Physician or designee, any patient care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences.
  • Educate patients/family regarding condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow up examinations if needed. Seek feedback from patients/family to evaluate understanding and document.
  • Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
  • Manage and coordinate the care of patients and staff to ensure a smooth flow of patients throughout their stay.
  • Function as triage nurse by assessing patients directly on admission and prioritize cases according to presentation of symptoms.
  • Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform assessments and develop an individualized plan of care for geriatric patients.
  • Maintain patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information, legibly, accurately and completely.
  • Assume resource nurse responsibilities when necessary.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in services and/or reading journals.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
