The Police Captain is a uniformed command staff position within the University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD). Captains will be assigned and responsible for a variety of senior level leadership roles within the department. Reporting to the Chief of Police, Captains will have direct oversight over a Division budget and will act as Chief of Police when the Chief of Police has an extended absence. This position will provide administrative, oversight and strategic leadership and supervision of the Operations or Administration Divisions, including supervision and direction over Sergeants, Police Officers, Reserve Police Officers, Security Officers and non-sworn personnel. This position serves as a representative of the University and the department and will build progressive, partnership-driven programming tailored to campus needs. This position will monitor legal and legislative activities, report findings and recommendations, and implement policy changes as directed.
