Data Quality Analyst - Intern

About The Position
The Quality Data Analyst Co-op will support IPG Photonics’ Quality department by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from manufacturing processes, testing operations, and customer feedback. The role is intended for a student pursuing a technical or engineering degree who has strong analytical skills and an interest in quality systems, data analytics, and continuous improvement. The analyst will develop visualizations and dashboards to support quality investigations, trend analysis, and reporting; help investigate nonconformities and process issues; maintain quality records; and collaborate with engineering and other cross-functional teams. The co-op provides experience in quality and reliability engineering, statistical methods in high-tech manufacturing, and the use of data to support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Excel, including pivot tables, functions, and charts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to interpret data, draw conclusions, and present results clearly.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Python, R, SQL, or Power BI.
- Experience using statistical tools such as SPC, Minitab, or JMP.
- Familiarity with quality methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Exposure to manufacturing environments or complex electro-optical systems.
- Understanding of data visualization tools or dashboarding.
Responsibilities
- Extract, clean, and analyze quality-related datasets from manufacturing, test, and service systems.
- Create dashboards, charts, and visual reports to identify trends, anomalies, and potential root causes.
- Support investigation and troubleshooting of nonconformities, yield issues, and process deviations.
- Maintain and update quality documentation, reports, and records.
- Prepare data for corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), 8D reports, and internal audits in support of quality engineers.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, R&D, Test, and Supply Chain teams to gather data and communicate findings.
- Recommend data-driven improvements to enhance product quality and operational metrics.
- Develop and maintain dashboards using Excel, Power BI, or other industry-standard visualization libraries.
- Transform large, complex datasets into clear, user-friendly charts, graphs, and layouts.
- Present visual findings in team meetings and communicate quality metrics to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ensure consistent formatting, labeling, and visual standards across recurring quality reports.
