About The Position

Requirements

• Engineering degree; a BSME or BSEE is preferred.
• At least 2 years of technical experience in the installation of building automation systems.
• Familiarity with commercial building construction and renovation.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding HVAC mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans and specifications.
• Ability to read and compose technical information and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to people without building-automation experience.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and convert units of measure.
• Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
• Ability to pass drug screening and a company driving safety test, prove U.S. employment eligibility, and hold a valid driver's license.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds and walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Willingness to travel to job sites, potentially up to 40% of assigned duties, and occasionally overnight.

• Experience with Trane system controllers.
• Experience designing, installing, and programming building automation systems.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical building codes.
• Knowledge of HVAC and electrical design and engineering theory.
• Understanding of basic programming and low-voltage circuit design and theory.
• Experience with Microsoft Visio design software or equivalent CAD design software.
• Basic programming experience.
• Certifications such as ASHRAE, LEED AP, AEE, BCA, NEEBM, or AABC are recommended.
• Licenses such as EIT, CEM, CBCP, ACP, CCP, CEA, PEM, or PE are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review contract documents, including plans, specifications, and project proposals, to determine project requirements and plan system designs.
• Prepare project Requests for Information (RFIs) for the engineer of record to clarify system controllability, sequences of operation, and potential building-code issues.
• Create controls installation submittals—including mechanical flow diagrams, controller wiring diagrams, valve and damper selections, and project record documents—using Microsoft Visio design software.
• Coordinate with the project manager to review controls submittals before submission for engineer review and ordering of the project bill of materials.
• Select components that meet project specifications and budget requirements.
• Finalize sequences of operation for review by the project manager, Controls Engineering Team Leader, and engineer of record.
• Provide technical assistance to project managers and field technicians during controls-system installation.
• Program project system controllers for complex HVAC systems, including air handling, chilled-water and hot-water generation plants, and building-level energy management controllers.
• Coordinate with field technicians during installation and project closeout to ensure proper system operation.
• Support project managers and field technicians during third-party project commissioning.
• Provide exceptional, responsive, and professional customer service; address internal and external customer concerns and requests within the scope of the project.
• Promote cooperation and teamwork, improve Controls Projects business-unit processes, continue learning, and share knowledge with team members.
• Follow company safety programs, use required personal protective equipment, report non-compliance and HR-related incidents, and complete assigned safety training.
• Meet the quality standards established by the Controls Engineering Team Leader.
