About The Position

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including direct experience managing restricted funding — specifically city, state, and federal government contracts.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, GAAP standards, and fund accounting.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with additional ERP systems a plus.
• Proven ability to step into interim or fractional roles and deliver results quickly with minimal ramp-up.
• Available for hourly, contract (1099) engagements, with flexibility across multiple assignments.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

• CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.
• Candidates located in the New York Metro area and open to working onsite for clients as needed are preferred, but candidates located elsewhere will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Oversee compliance and reporting for restricted funds, including city, state, and federal contracts and grants, ensuring adherence to funder-specific requirements and regulations (e.g., 2 CFR 200 / Uniform Guidance).
• Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for the duration of the engagement.
• Oversee accounting practices, audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
• Assess and strengthen internal controls and financial procedures, particularly around grant and contract compliance.
• Prepare financial statements, KPIs, and cash flow analyses for leadership and, where applicable, funders.
• Provide steady, credible financial leadership during interim periods, onboarding smoothly and transferring knowledge effectively at engagement close.
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, accountants, and external financial service providers as needed.
• Oversee finance staff and/or external vendors for the duration of the engagement.
