This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Certified Pharmacy Technician II accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique where applicable, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, they may complete medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and assist in training other pharmacy technicians. The technician must abide by all organizational policies and procedures, comply with legal and regulatory standards, and support area leaders. Key responsibilities include obtaining patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and may involve obtaining immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision.
