About The Position

We are seeking a Youth Advocate to join our Youth Services Team and support LGBTQQ+ youth who access LYRIC’s school-based and community-based programs. A key focus of this role is supporting transgender women and femmes. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working directly with trans women and femmes and an understanding of the strengths, experiences, and systemic barriers impacting these communities. This position also supports LGBTQQ+ youth with a wide range of identities, experiences, and needs. Youth Advocates are crucial in program planning, implementation, and evaluation, offering direct services, case management, youth leadership development, and community-building opportunities. Responsibilities include guiding young people through skill-building activities, facilitating support groups, developing curriculum, and supporting youth in navigating systems such as healthcare, schools, public benefits, and community resources, using a short-term, goal-focused model.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in case management, program coordination, or direct youth services.
  • Experienced working directly with transgender women and femmes and able to provide culturally responsive, gender-affirming support that centers their dignity, autonomy, strengths, and leadership.
  • Skilled in group facilitation, curriculum development, crisis intervention, and restorative or harm reduction practices.
  • Knowledgeable about health and wellness issues affecting youth with complex needs, including HIV/STIs, mental health, and access to affirming healthcare.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about issues impacting LGBTQQ+ youth, including those who are QTBIPOC, undocumented, disabled, system-involved, engaged in sex work, or living with health needs.
  • Comfortable working in a multiracial, multicultural, multigender, and intergenerational environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with San Francisco and Bay Area youth resources, particularly resources serving LGBTQQ+ communities, transgender communities, and youth of color.
  • Comfortable applying experience while working across a broad range of LGBTQQ+ communities, identities, and lived experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide youth-centered, culturally grounded case management for LGBTQQ+ young people across LYRIC’s communities, with a particular focus on providing culturally responsive and gender-affirming support to transgender women and femmes.
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and individualized service planning using a strengths-based and social justice–centered approach.
  • Maintain an active caseload and support youth in achieving short-term goals.
  • Support youth in navigating healthcare, housing, education, public benefits, and other systems and services.
  • Ensure smooth transitions from LYRIC services to community resources and supports.
  • Conduct outreach to communities facing significant barriers to resources and services, including transgender women and femmes, QTBIPOC youth, youth engaged in sex work, undocumented youth, disabled youth, system-impacted youth, and youth with health needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, community-based organizations, city partners, and youth-serving agencies.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with organizations and providers serving transgender women and femmes as well as other LGBTQQ+ communities.
  • Coordinate and staff community events, youth-led activities, and LYRIC-wide gatherings.
