About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Good clerical, organizational, phone, and communication skills.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 1 to 10 pounds.
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing 11 to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods.
• Ability to perform frequent walking and standing.

Nice To Haves

• 0 to 3 years of transcription experience.

Responsibilities

• Transcribe gross descriptions, microscopic diagnoses, and other clinical information into the LIS.
• Correct and edit reports according to Pathologist instructions.
• Provide STAT and malignant results verbally to clients, as applicable.
• Obtain patient clinical history, as applicable.
• Participate in training new staff members, as needed.
• Prepare outside consultation cases for send-out to the client, as applicable.
• Maintain send-out and consultation logs, as applicable.
• Select Pathologist quality control cases (PASR), as required.
• Assign CPT codes after completing and documenting required training.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results; correct the problem or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, or director.
• Understand and follow applicable standard operating procedures for job-related responsibilities, including the Pathologist Electronic Signature Guidelines SOP.
• Sort and file copies of transcribed reports and perform other clerical duties as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
