About The Position
Easterseals NY is hiring a Teacher Assistant for its Bronx Child Development Center preschool program. The Teacher Assistant works under the classroom teacher’s supervision and helps meet students’ physical and emotional needs. The role includes supervising the class when the teacher is engaged in other activities and attending assigned staffing meetings and departmental in-service sessions. This is a 10-month position, with the option to work during the summer extended school year.
Requirements
- High school education or GED.
- Level I NYS Teacher Assistant Certification.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two years of practical experience working with children preferred.
Responsibilities
- Help transfer children to and from buses each day and ensure students are accounted for and in the appropriate places.
- Check children as they arrive at school for physical health and document any issues.
- Collaborate with the teacher and other teacher assistants to design developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s holistic development.
- Prepare the classroom each day for planned activities.
- Maintain a clean environment after activities.
- Participate in group activities for students.
- Work with individual students on activities specified in their IEPs.
- Assist children during meals and snacks as needed.
- Ensure children transfer safely within the building and to and from the playground, maintaining face-recognition procedures.
- Use PBIS and social-emotional learning strategies with all children.
- Help children regulate their behavior when necessary.
- Participate in meetings and staff development.
