About The Position

American Systems is seeking a safety-experienced engineering professional to support the Department of War's Research and Engineering organization. The organization serves as the Department's Chief Technology Officer and works with Pentagon stakeholders and service PEOs. The position is located at the Mark Center in Alexandria and focuses on implementing safety policy and conducting reviews within Research and Engineering. The engineer provides technical expertise in system safety, applying MIL-STD-882E requirements and tasks throughout product lifecycle activities. The role also supports policy and guidance development in system safety and related specialty engineering fields, and may involve technical expertise in software safety engineering, fuze safety, munitions and energetics safety, or test range safety. The engineer leads and participates in system safety communities of practice and working groups involving the military services, civilian agencies, FFRDCs, industry, and academia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience, including System Safety Engineering.
  • Current and active Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for the purposes of obtaining or holding a U.S. security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree preferred.
  • Top Secret clearance preferred.
  • Experience supporting OUSW.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to the Department of War as a System Safety Engineer, applying MIL-STD-882E requirements and tasks to product lifecycle activities.
  • Review program documents and provide input to Department of War policy and guidance on system safety and related specialty engineering fields.
  • Apply demonstrable system safety engineering experience gained through a combination of on-the-job experience and coursework.
  • Provide technical expertise in software safety engineering, fuze safety, munitions and energetics safety, or test range safety.
  • Lead and participate in communities of practice and working group meetings with the services, civilian agencies, FFRDCs, industry, and academia on system safety.
