About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, taste, or smell.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to carry a self-contained breathing apparatus if needed.
• Close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

• Industry experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Weigh all trucks entering the landfill and ensure they are properly positioned on the scales for accurate weights.
• Test scales daily and operate the computerized truck scale to determine load weights.
• Provide prompt and courteous service to customers.
• Operate a register, handle cash and credit card transactions, and balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Inspect loads, question drivers as required, and climb onto vehicles to inspect loads when necessary.
• Enter and verify load, customer, and truck information.
• Instruct drivers to the appropriate disposal area and redirect loads that contain hazardous or unauthorized waste or other materials not permitted by facility regulations.
• Process charges for each load and generate charge tickets using a computer and printer.
• Perform routine data entry, basic mathematical calculations, and accurate, legible recordkeeping.
• File weight tickets, record and secure cash receipts, and maintain records of incoming and outgoing loads.
• Answer incoming calls and respond to public inquiries about prices.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the scale deck, approach, scale booth, and surrounding areas.
• Conduct business in accordance with health and safety policies and legal compliance requirements.
• Comply with regulatory, environmental, safety, and corporate rules and standards.
