Ameresco has an immediate opening for an experienced Project Manager to join our Asset Sustainability Group, providing leadership, planning, and delivery expertise for the successful implementation of the AssetPlanner platform. This role is a strategic individual contributor position focused on enterprise client engagement, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate brings deep experience managing complex enterprise environments, optimizing business processes, and ensuring strong financial and operational performance across projects, paired with a high degree of emotional intelligence (EQ) to effectively navigate stakeholder dynamics and drive alignment. A primary focus of this role will be leading a large-scale engagement with a U.S. State Department client, requiring oversight of funding appropriation processes, program governance, and alignment between capital planning outputs and allocated funding streams.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience in enterprise project management and service delivery
  • Experience working with public sector or government clients, particularly in environments involving budgeting, capital planning, or funding appropriation processes
  • Strong understanding of: Project financials (budgets, margins, forecasting), SLA management and performance tracking, Resource coordination and issue resolution
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence (EQ), including the ability to manage stakeholder relationships, resolve conflict, and lead through influence rather than authority.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary trusted advisor and point of contact for a portfolio of high-value enterprise clients
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across client organizations
  • Apply emotional intelligence (EQ) to understand client needs, manage expectations, and navigate complex organizational dynamics
  • Support long-term client retention, repeat business, and program expansion
  • Lead end-to-end AssetPlanner implementation projects from initiation through completion
  • Lead a flagship state government project, ensuring alignment between AssetPlanner outputs and funding appropriation requirements, budget cycles, and governance frameworks
  • Coordinate internal cross-functional teams to meet project timelines, milestones, and deliverables
  • Facilitate project meetings, status updates, and decision-making processes with clarity and professionalism
  • Act as the primary liaison between clients, facility teams, and external partners across: Public sector, Education (K–12 and post-secondary), Institutional and government organizations, Commercial and industrial sectors
  • Manage scope, schedules, budgets, and risk profiles to ensure: Contractual compliance, Project profitability
  • Oversee project execution within government funding and appropriation constraints, ensuring traceability between project deliverables and approved funding allocations
  • Monitor project progress and quality, identifying and resolving deficiencies or deviations
  • Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Track and document delays, escalating issues as required
  • Provide clear, consistent reporting on project status, risks, and issues
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal awareness and EQ in all communications, particularly in high-pressure or escalated situations
  • Translate technical outputs into funding and decision-making insights for government stakeholders
  • Influence stakeholders through credibility, empathy, and structured communication
  • Ensure alignment across teams through structured updates and documentation
  • Collaborate with internal teams to define project needs and optimize delivery strategies
  • Drive process improvements across project management practices
  • Mentor and support junior project managers, promoting both technical capability and interpersonal effectiveness
