About The Position

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Master's degree preparation in nursing.
• License to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• National certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
• Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in a collegiate nursing program or equivalent experience.
• Evidence of progressive leadership and academic responsibilities.
• Evidence of effective teaching.
• Demonstrated scholarly productivity.

Responsibilities

• Ensure congruence between the College and University missions and the educational goals of the nurse anesthesia program.
• Ensure the program meets standards established by its accrediting, professional, regulatory, and certifying organizations, and monitor accreditor policies to maintain compliance.
• Collaborate with academic leaders, faculty, and staff to plan, implement, and evaluate the nurse anesthesia curriculum.
• Collaborate with the Dean and AVP Business Planning on the program budget, operating expenses, academic resources, staffing, and faculty-development funding.
• Establish and implement efficient systems for day-to-day program operations.
• Administer anesthesia one day per week to maintain clinical expertise and participate in clinical instruction when students are assigned to University-affiliated hospitals.
• Review completed applications and chair the nurse anesthesia admissions selection committee.
• Schedule pre-term and post-term planning and evaluation meetings with teaching faculty.
• Track and participate in obtaining clinical placements for students.
• Collaborate with the Director of Simulation and Clinical Skills to plan and implement laboratory and simulation activities.
• Plan and implement orientation for new students.
• Supervise recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientation, and evaluation of clinical faculty.
• Collaborate with the Chair for Graduate Programs on teaching assignments and course scheduling.
• Maintain open communication with students, course faculty, and staff.
• Develop program calendars and schedules for SEE examination, Prodigy, and NCE success planning with the Chair for Graduate Programs and faculty.
• Mentor and serve as a role model for teaching and clinical faculty.
• Promote an environment conducive to student engagement, participation, and the enrichment of a diverse student body.
• Oversee student advisement and remediation, and serve as a resource for faculty on course-related responsibilities.
• Oversee maintenance of the program database with staff; maintain program, student, and clinical faculty records and files.
• Prepare monthly and annual reports.
• Collaborate with College leadership and University support services on recruitment, marketing, admission, registration, progression, and graduation activities.
• Verify that students meet graduation requirements and track national certification examination pass rates with faculty.
• Review the curriculum annually as part of the systematic evaluation plan and collaborate on alignment with other advanced nurse practitioner programs and accreditation standards.
• Organize the curriculum to ensure a logical sequence of teaching and learning, identify minimum clinical competencies for graduates, and participate in didactic teaching.
• Represent the College on selected University committees.
• Provide guidance for nursing student organizations in collaboration with the faculty liaison.
• Teach as assigned.
