About The Position

The Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides primary and specialty health care to new and established patients, working independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals. The role includes assessing and managing common acute and chronic illnesses, consulting and making referrals, and collaborating with physicians and members of the health care team. Care may include comprehensive assessment and physical examination; ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and directly managing disease; promoting wellness; prescribing pharmacological agents, treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies; and arranging appropriate follow-up. Teaching and counseling individuals, families, and groups are significant parts of the role. The practitioner is also expected to serve as a mentor and participate in clinical improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting. This is a supplemental position in Family Medicine, Express Care.

Requirements

  • Nurse practitioners or Physician Assistants must be board certified by examination by an approved certifying body.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner: Master's-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner: Current Minnesota RN and APRN licenses and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Physician Assistant: Current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross at the start date.
  • DEA registration.
