About The Position

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Trauma/General Surgery teams. This position will require flexibility on a day-to-day basis on filling in the needs of the Surgical and Trauma teams in the hospital and the clinic setting. There will be limited procedures and no OR time. In this role, you will help manage all aspects of trauma and post-operative patient care from admission to discharge for your assigned trauma team, as well as general inpatient care for teams that are busy. There will be a strong emphasis on post call duties – tertiary exams, discharges, coordinating care. You will interface with all levels and disciplines of the healthcare team to increase the quality of patient care, patient education and streamline the discharge process. You will also support our staff surgeons in the Surgery Clinic (one half day per week) and actively participate in quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program
  • Current, or eligibility for, MN license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant
  • BLS/ACLS certification
  • ATLS certification or obtained within two years

Nice To Haves

  • Family Nurse Practitioner license is preferred for Nurse Practitioner applicants

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the education and guidance of surgical residents
  • Assist with research
