About The Position

HSHS Medical Group is recruiting a BC/BE Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our General Surgery team in Springfield, IL based at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. This APP will work alongside a team of four surgeons and will go with them to the OR as their primary first assist. This APP will also assist with outpatient follow-up appointments and inpatient rounds when they are not in the OR. Any APRNs applying for the position must also have an RNFA certification. Position Details: - Monday - Friday weekly schedule with an option of a 4 day work week - Weekly schedule will be a mix of OR time, clinic time, and inpatient coverage - The clinic is on the hospital campus and is attached to the main hospital to easily access the OR and the inpatient floors from the outpatient clinic and provider office. - After hours clinic call required, which consists of phone call only with no obligation to come onsite after hours if a call is received. - EPIC EMR in both the inpatient and outpatient setting

Requirements

  • Unrestricted Illinois license prior to start.
  • Board Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
  • RNFA certification (for APRN applicants).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in general surgery or another surgical field is preferred, but experience in other specialties will be considered.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing PLUS 5 years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Doctoral degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in management of patients across the care continuum preferred.
  • Board certification from the National Certification Corporation is preferred.
  • Controlled Substance license in state of practice is preferred.
  • Federal DEA license is preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary first assist in the OR alongside a team of four surgeons.
  • Assist with outpatient follow-up appointments.
  • Assist with inpatient rounds when not in the OR.
  • Provide after-hours clinic call support (phone only).
